All About Cable Length

Cables are measured before connectors are soldered on (terminated). This means the total length, tip-to-tip, will measure slightly longer than you ordered, depending on the style of connectors, and the length of exposed cable between each connector will measure slightly shorter.

As a rule of thumb, picture the ordered length measuring between the tips of right angle connectors, or between the base of the plug finger (the part that insert into your device’s jack) on straight connectors. We recommend erring on the longer side; a little extra cable length won’t have much impact on your bottom line! For most of our patch cables available by the inch or two, feel free to order a half size by just rounding down and sending us an email with the item and order number, or specifying in the Personalization field upon adding the product to cart (if applicable).

Here are some examples.

Right angle MIDI (5 Pin DIN) and XLR connectors hide a little extra cable length under their housing, so we cheat the length a little longer to compensate. If you have any further questions or need to clarify an exact length, just send us an email or submit a custom request!
